ABOUT IDAHO VOTE BY MAIL

Idaho Vote by Mail is the sponsor of an initiative to allow Idaho voters to vote by mail without having to request an absentee ballot each year.

Our petition is a non-partisan effort to bring voting by mail to those people in Idaho who need it.  It requests that the matter be placed on the general election ballot in 2012.

Currently in Idaho if you want to vote by absentee ballot you have to request a ballot each year.  The purpose of our initiative is to allow voters the option of automatically receiving an absentee ballot without having to ask for it every year.

Our petition was filed with the Secretary of State’s office on June 15, 2009.  On August 12, 2009 the initiative passed final review by the Idaho Secretary of State and the Attorney General has issued the necessary ballot titles.

We have to gather 51,712 signatures of registered voters across the state in order for the initiative to qualify for the ballot.  We have until February 11, 2011 to do it.

In 2007, all forty-four of Idaho’s county clerks sponsored and supported a bill in the Idaho Legislature to provide for voting by mail in all elections, a system that is being successfully used in Oregon. Legislative leaders tabled the bill and the issue has not been addressed by the legislature since.

Idaho Vote by Mail believes there are any number of voters who need or prefer to vote by absentee ballot.  Our initiative does not, however request that Idaho go to an all vote by mail system like Oregon.  Our initiative simply provides that those voters who want or need to vote by absentee ballot don’t have to ask for one every year.

Idaho Vote by Mail, Inc. is a non-partisan, Idaho non-profit corporation dedicated to making voting in Idaho easier and more convenient for all Idaho registered voters.
